Everything you need to know about the 2018 Season.

From March to September Melbourne lives and breathes AFL. Whilst footy is a national pastime with teams from all over the country competing, the sport has a special place in Victorian’s hearts as this is where it first began.

In 2018, 18 teams will battle it out over 23 rounds to make the final 8. Then finals footy sees which two teams will battle for glory in the grand final which takes place on the last weekend of September.

Footy rivalry is something Melburnians take seriously and your chosen team says a lot about you and your family. But a common love of the game unites spectators from all sides of the sport. AFL is a unique type of football, it has more contact and tackles then soccer and more finesse them rugby. It’s generally a high scoring game which means excitement from the ball toss to the final siren.

Each year, there are some iconic clashes to put in your diary including Geelong V Hawthorn on Easter Monday and the ANZAC Day match between Collingwood and Essendon. Also, Finals Footy where the final 8 are on display in the lead up to the grand final, often showcases some of the best matches of the year.

AFL is played primarily during winter and is the best way to spend the cooler weekends, cheering your team to victory in the stands. Rug up in your team colours, get a pie and a beer to enjoy in your seats and keep warm with the red hot excitement from the ground and by cheering your heart out.

Footy is played in Melbourne at the iconic MCG and the modern Etihad Stadium, both of which are an easy tram ride away from the hotel.

We look forward to welcoming footy fans from all over Victoria and across Australia to Crowne Plaza Melbourne this AFL season.
